An elderly Albany man has denied possessing the imported euthanasia drug, Nembutal – in one of the first prosecutions of its kind in Western Australia.

Rupert Ward, 68, pleaded not guilty in Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday, charged with possessing a prohibited substance.

The charges relate to the alleged seizure of euthanasia drug, Nembutal, from his home on WA’s south coast in April.

Police allege Mr Ward was in possession of the drug when officers, acting on information from Australian Federal Police and Customs, raided his home.
