Ramsay Health Care has named deputy chairman Michael Siddle as the private hospital operator’s new chairman, following the death earlier this month of founder and former chairman Paul Ramsay.

Mr Siddle has spent 17 years as Ramsay’s deputy chairman and was a close friend and confidante of the late Mr Ramsay. He has been a director since 1975.

The 65-year-old was named as an administrator and controller of the Paul Ramsay Foundation, to which Mr Ramsay left a philanthropic bequest of more than $3 billion.

Mr Siddle was also one of a close circle of friends with which Mr Ramsay was travelling with in Europe earlier, where he suffered a heart attack that lead to his passing.
