Plans for a demonstration by doctors against Government contracts have been put on hold #qldpol #smoqld #keepourdoctors
DOCTORS have put plans for a demonstration against controversial Newman Government contracts on hold while they weigh up the latest offer to end the dispute.
The move is the first positive sign of a resolution since last month when Health Minister Lawrence Springborg made a series of concessions, which were later rejected.
Doctors had planned to meet in Brisbane tomorrow night as part of a campaign to ramp up pressure on the LNP administration to renegotiate the “unfair” individual contracts.
But doctors behind the informal “Pineapple Group” say they will now hold off on meeting after Mr Springborg put a new compromise offer on the table yesterday.
As reported in The Courier-Mail, the changes include deleting all references to the “profitability” of hospitals from the contracts to counter claims doctors would be forced to put profits before patients to keep their jobs.
Dr John Fraser said doctors would postpone their next meeting “as a show of good faith” while lawyers from both sides considered Mr Springborg’s proposed solution to the impasse.
