Not one person deserves to give what you have given, only to be treated like you are being treated right now – Post by a medical trainee #qldpol #smoqld #keepourdoctors

Up until the weekend I was up in arms over the Queensland Health contract dispute – and wanting to fight the government all the way.

Over the past week Springborg and Newman have taken to personally attacking the integrity of our specialists for daring to challenge their draconian ‘contracts’. They have politicised the lives of our specialists, and of our patients.

That has changed how I feel about this situation.

For me, our consultants are the people that have helped us through the high highs, and the low lows of a very tough career.

They are the people that have given up most of their 20s/30s studying, missed out on things other people take for granted (like their own kids birthdays or soccer games, friends weddings, even holidays).

They are the people that treat patients, sure. But they are also those who (in their own time) teach us to be better practitioners, answer our phone calls at 3am for advice, or leave their beds/loved ones at such hours to come in to hospital and help us save lives. And they are the ones who help guide us through the toughest/darkest moments of our careers. All without a word of complaint or expectation of anything in return.

I hoped for the people of Queensland that we can keep them, although it is already too late with many leaving us as we speak.

To those that feel they have been left with no choice but to leave you have my support. Because not one person deserves to give what you have given, only to be treated like you are being treated right now.
