Foreign doctors ‘no quick fix’ for QLD #qldpol #smoqld #keepourdoctors
The Queensland premier’s plan to replace specialists threatening to resign from the state’s public health system with foreign doctors has been rejected as an unworkable short-term solution.
Hundreds of specialists oppose Queensland government demands they transfer to individual contracts and give up the right to collective bargaining and reviews by an industrial tribunal.
The state government says the change is needed to make the doctors more productive and accountable and says if they resign en-mass, they will be replaced by specialists from interstate and overseas.
Dr Tarun Sen Gupta, the head of education at James Cook University’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, told Queensland Correspondent Stefan Armbruster mass resignations will leave big holes in the health system.
