Palmer United Party’s Queensland Leader, Dr Alex Douglas MP says he is being silenced by the Campbell Newman Government over his opposition to contracts for senior medical officers in the state’s public hospitals.
“This morning I attempted to ask a question about the ‘Clayton’s hospital contracts’ in State Parliament but was ruled out of order,” he said.
“Only a government that doesn’t believe in truth would rule out a question about the lack of truth in negotiations over Queensland Health and the Hospital and Health Services (HHS) new individual contracts for doctors.
“These agreements are nothing more than Clayton’s contracts because Health Minister Lawrence Springborg is not genuine about listening to doctors.
“One minute the Premier says that there will be no disadvantage to doctors, then the next he says ‘doctors have nothing to fear and should take their advice from their local HHS board.
“Yet doctors are repeatedly stating publicly they don’t trust the HHS boards or the Campbell Newman Government.
“A specialist SMO for QHealth, Dr Rob Thomas said on ABC 612 radio this morning that the government isn’t telling the truth in its negotiations with hospital doctors.
“Trust is just one of many victims here.
“The government cannot silence the public as easily as it can silence a single parliamentarian.
“I will continue to speak out against the contracts in spite of the government’s strategy to silence me at every opportunity they get.”
