AT LEAST 12 Toowoomba Hospital doctors indicated they would consider resigning if “some sign of good faith” isn’t shown by the State Government tomorrow.

About 40 doctors from the hospital gathered outside the emergency department today in protest at what they say are unfair conditions in individual work contracts.

Keep Our Doctors spokesman Dr Sandy McDonald told the group that while he asked that they did not resign immediately, the course of action could change pending tomorrow’s meetings with Department of Health officials.

“The government has at least indicated that it is listening a couple of times briefly, we have to keep them listening,” he said.

“That means we need to keep up the pressure.

“And if we don’t get a very good result out of the meeting tomorrow…I am strongly recommending that people considering putting in their resignation to their union, so we have a clear indication of how many people are not prepared to work in a system that treats doctors with contempt.”

The Australian Medical Association said the contracts will see senior doctors lose job security and be subject to unfair rostering.

However, Minister for Health Lawrence Springborg said the new contracts had been created after extensive consultation.
