Gold Coast surgeon quits over contracts stalemate #qldpol #smoqld #keepourcoctors #goldcoast
An orthopaedic surgeon from the Gold Coast University Hospital has blamed the Queensland Government and the bureaucracy for his resignation over work contracts.
At least three specialists have resigned from the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service and more are threatening to leave over an ongoing dispute with the State Government about individual work contracts.
Yesterday, orthopaedic surgeon Dr Ezekiel Tan added his name to the growing list of specialists tendering their resignations.
In an email to colleagues explaining his decision obtained by the ABC, Dr Tan stated “the behaviour and posturing of the current Newman Government and Queensland Health bureaucracy over the last week” influenced his decision.
Dr Tan says there is the “real possibility of senior staff moving off” and that “a lot of clinicians will leave” if the progress isn’t made … before the end of this month.
About 300 specialist medical officers work on the Gold Coast and many say they are considering leaving if the negotiation stalemate cannot be resolved.
The director-general of Queensland Health is due to travel to the Gold Coast today to meet doctors.
