“I will not quit for as long as we are making progress,” the Stafford MP and respected medico said yesterday.

Dr Davis continued to stand by the leaked letter he penned in which he said the Newman Government contracts could render his position in the junior ministry untenable. He said Health Minister Lawrence Springborg had agreed to work through any issues.

“I didn’t do it (write the letter) lightly. I go to our major hospitals on a very regular basis and this is an issue that has been raised repeatedly.”

Mr Springborg yesterday insisted he continued to have confidence in his junior minister, chalking his letter up to a “triumph of emotion over fact”.

Mr Springborg defended the new contracts, saying doctors would be better off.

“Every doctor I have spoken to one-on-one is comfortable with what’s on offer,” he said.

Senior public hospital doctors will meet at Brisbane’s Pineapple Hotel tonight to discuss the next step in their campaign to have the controversial individual employment contracts rewritten.
