David Gibson has his say on #doctors #qldpol #keepourdoctors
MEMBER for Gympie David Gibson says he hasn’t heard of any doctors’ concerns about new work contracts at Gympie Hospital.
Mr Gibson was responding to anonymous reports that doctors at Gympie and Nambour Hospitals were upset with new contracts and considering leaving Queensland Health.
A specialist doctor at Nambour said it would be an “unmitigated disaster” if as few as 10% of the doctors working on the Sunshine Coast followed through with the measures.
He said many felt they had no choice with the State Government’s “ambush” before Christmas, introducing new contracts which take away the working conditions they have fought for “over the past 15 years”.
The new contracts will provide no protection from arbitrary dismissal, no dispute resolution process and doctors could be forced to move across the state without consultation.
If doctors left Nambour it would have a domino effect on Gympie Hospital because a host of services are controlled by the larger hospital.
Mr Gibson said he hadn’t heard of any problems with contracts at Gympie Hospital.
“I can only add that my staff advise that my office has not been contacted by any doctors raising any concerns about the contracts but that may be because they haven’t received them yet,” Mr Gibson said.
“Gympie Hospital has been fortunate to be serviced by well trained and highly valued medical officers over the years,” he said.
“These new changes are made with one primary goal in mind – patient care and as the local MP it will be my focus to make sure that we see Queensland Health deliver excellent healthcare to our region.”
